It's tough for Australia to set fresh records.

The greatest achievements have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, along with another six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed 1,294 days without defeat in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, targeted by the record chasers, are what's still available for a squad that has won it all.

That it took up to Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to accomplish their maiden ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the biggest in the women's 50-over format, is, frankly, a tribute to the bowling attack that have worn canary yellow over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their hitters to hold a record if not afforded the possibility.

Ultimately, the result of Australia allowing 330 runs was skipper Alyssa Healy being given an opportunity to produce her newest gem.

That loss "pushed us to reconsider our benchmarks," Healy commented earlier.

At the following one-day championship in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She guaranteed her country would not fail again.

Whether this newest brilliant performance exceeded that prior achievement is debatable.

Certain people claim the argument supporting final game tension. Some might respond with the challenge that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What's clear is this ton was considerably tougher to see coming.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings came after six matches in India over the past few weeks in which she had not exceeded 30 runs.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it's been a frustrating experience because I feel like I lacked timing completely," said Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's fighting spirit has always been her great strength - and an invaluable trait in replacing famous previous leader Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in recent ODI series, fallen to the young fast bowler in all three matches, but here that only provided Healy's motivation.

A single came off the opening delivery and from there the right-hander was underway.

"An opportunity to take the field and face the challenge with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She reached fifty in 35 balls - her quickest at the World Cup - and her hundred in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

Once she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at a run-a-ball - an achievable target now needing a comfortable finish.

"To chase 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the confidence to accomplish that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if necessary, we are confident we can achieve it."

That comment will be the last Australia's opponents at this tournament need to hear.

Over the past five days a belief they will succeed regardless of circumstances has grown stronger - this success following win against Pakistan by 107-run victory despite struggling at 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before a meeting with traditional opponents England in Indore in ten days, by which point a semi-final place may likely be confirmed.

It was at that stage they exited the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - an encounter Healy couldn't play because of torn tissue in her foot as she led her country for the first time at a major tournament.

So strong is her resolve, she subsequently stated she wanted to have participated despite the injury.

Yet even as she later admitted those fitness problems have pushed back plans to retire, this World Cup is expected to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is still to achieve an international tournament as skipper.

Triumph in India would take her to the summit of her final mountain.
