Assassin's Creed Introduces Unexpected AoT Crossover for Thanksgiving
In a surprising collaboration that challenges conventional expectations, Ubisoft has revealed an in-game partnership between Assassin's Creed Shadows and the renowned anime series Attack on Titan. The unusual holiday event continues from November 25 through December 22, including no-cost extra story content for Shadows players.
Strange Adventure Disclosed
According to the official announcement, "A strange encounter draws characters Naoe and Yasuke into a new mission, where hints of prohibited ceremonies and monstrous metamorphoses resonate through the shadows." The storyline features a "unusually attired woman named Ada" who charges the duo with journeying into the Crystal Cave—a key location from Attack on Titan—to save her friend from a clandestine sect.
The mission centers on "strange tests and a fearsome foe" and is accessible to all players who have acquired the Yasuke character.
Recognizable Places and Changes
The teaser features the Subterranean Sanctuary from Attack on Titan reimagined as the Crystal Cave. This significant location was formerly where the Reiss royal family passed down the Founding Titan ability through eras. The teaser concludes with a dramatic scene showing a character, likely the prisoner, transforming into a Titan that rises over Naoe and Yasuke.
Unique Prizes and Additional Material
Players who accomplish the mission will obtain an exclusive katana alongside several artifacts secreted throughout the area in hidden chests. The update also contains premium Attack on Titan item packs, including:
- Titan-themed costume for Yasuke
- Mikasa attire for Naoe
- Exclusive weapons
- Survey Corps mount
Third Free Story Addition
This release also introduces the game's third complimentary story content, titled "The Mystery." This lighthearted quest teams Naoe and Yasuke as they swap signature techniques: Naoe reveals a performative variation of Yasuke's war kick, while Yasuke acquires non-lethal stealth takedowns. Faithful to its name, "The Mystery" also contains a new environmental puzzle that may ultimately shed light on some unanswered questions from the main storyline.
Earlier Japanese Animation Partnerships
This represents scarcely the initial time the Assassin's Creed franchise has partnered with well-known anime franchises. The series earlier included a 2020 crossover story connecting Assassin's Creed: Valhalla with Makoto Yukimura's Vinland Saga. Furthermore, Valhalla unofficially included a quest that obviously echoed the popular series One-Punch Man.
